Pune, 6th July 2021: A case has been registered by Pune City Police against SonyLiv, Applause Entertainment and YouTube channel for allegedly defaming The Karad Urban Cooperative Bank in the web series SCAM 1992-The Harshad Mehta Story.

Sony Live Channels Applause Entertainment and two YouTube channels have been charged under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code, the Trademark Act and the IT Act. Deputy General Manager of the bank Ravindra Mahadev Kamble (age 54, resident of Dhankawadi) has lodged a complaint in this regard at Cyber police station, Shivajinagar.

According to the FIR, The Karad Urban Cooperative Bank’s logo is registered under the Trademark Act. The bank’s logo has been used in the third part of the web series ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’ on SonyLiv. SonyLiv and Applause Entertainment illegally copied the bank’s logo and used it for commercial gain. This logo was used without the permission of the bank. This damaged the social reputation of the bank.

“The web series was launched on October 9, 2020. Apart from that, the bank’s logo has been used in connection with the Harshad Mehta case. As a result, the bank faced financial and social hardships. In addition, two YouTube channels were found to have used the bank’s logo for videos,” the complaint said.

Bank’s lawyer Jayshree Nangre said that the complaint was filed with cyber police in January. It was handed over to the Sahakarnagar police station. Accordingly, the police station investigated the complaint and registered a case on July 2.
