Pune: Fire Brigade Rescues Youth Stranded in Mutha River Under Garware Bridge
Pune, 3rd August 2026: A 25-year-old man trapped in the strong current of the Mutha river beneath Garware Bridge was rescued by the Pune Fire Brigade on Monday afternoon.
According to the fire department, the control room received an alert around 4 pm that a youth was stranded in the river under Garware Bridge. A rescue team from the Erandwane Fire Station was immediately dispatched to the spot.
On reaching the scene, firefighters found the man standing in the middle of the river, clinging to a concrete pillar amid the fast-flowing water. Recognising the seriousness of the situation, the rescue team entered the river without delay.
Using life jackets, a life buoy and ropes, the firefighters reached the stranded man, reassured him and secured him with a safety rope and life jacket before bringing him safely to the riverbank.
The rescued man was identified as Sagar Agav (25), a resident of Karvenagar. He was rescued unharmed.
Citizens present at the spot applauded the firefighters for their swift and courageous rescue operation.
The rescue was carried out by driver Mahesh Pangarkar and firefighters Sachin Aivale, Ashutosh Pingale, Sagar Mundhe, Kamlesh Mane, Rahul Waghmode and Nilesh Patil.
