Pune Firefighters Save Residents, Including Birthday Boy, in Kondhwa Fire

Pune, 17th December 2024: A three-storey building’s ground floor caught fire in Pune earlier today around 2:30 PM. The fire started in a clothing shop. A young boy, who was celebrating his birthday, was rescued from the fire by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Fire Brigade. The Fire Brigade Control room received a call at 2:39 PM reporting the fire in Kondhwa Khurd.

According to a spokesperson from the Pune Fire Brigade, one fire vehicle each from the Late Devidas Kate Fire Station in Kondhwa Khurd and the Mata Ramai Ambedkar Fire Station in Kondhwa Budruk responded. Upon arrival, fire officials discovered the fire had engulfed two clothing shops on the ground floor of a three-storey building in Bhagyoday Nagar, Kondhwa. The fire personnel immediately began spraying water and took precautions to prevent the fire from spreading to the upper floors. They rescued five women and a 3-year-old boy, who were residents of the upper floor, using breathing apparatus (BA sets). The fire was completely extinguished in about twenty minutes, eliminating further danger.

Clothes, wooden goods, electrical appliances, and machinery were damaged in the fire, though the cause remains undetermined. A woman’s leg and a fireman’s hand were slightly burnt in the incident. Locals expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the firemen’s efforts, especially in rescuing the young boy on his birthday.

Firefighters involved in the rescue operation included drivers Ravindra Hivarkar, and Satyam Chaukhade, and firefighters Rafiq Sheikh, Kishore Mohite, Yogesh Pisal, Sagar Dalvi, Nilesh Wankhede, Kunal Khode, Govind Geete, Harshal Yewle, and Harshvardhan Khade.
