Pune: FIRs Registered After PMRDA Chief And ED Of Maha Metro Get Calls From ‘Union Secretary’ For Contract Details
Pune, January 19, 2021: In the name of the Union Secretary, the head of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and the Executive Director of Metro have been called and asked to help get the Metro contract.
Two separate cases have been registered at Chatushrungi and Koregaon Park police stations by Pune city police. The person calling both officers is likely to be the same, police suspect.
PMRDA chief Suhas Diwase, a resident of Pashan, has lodged a complaint in this regard with Chatushrungi police station. A case has been registered against the unknown person. According to the police, the PMRDA is working on the Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi metro route. On January 17, while he was at home, Diwase got a call from an unknown number. The person pretended to be secretary of the Government of India’s urban development ministry.
Diwase was asked to reveal information regarding the Pune Metro contractors and to call them. The accused called Diwase many times. Diwase tried to question after he found the man on the phone suspicious. It was then that he realized it was a fraud. He immediately went to the Chatushrungi police station himself and lodged a complaint. Assistant Police Inspector Rajendra Dahiphale is further investigating the matter.
In the second incident, Maharashtra Railway Corporation Limited’s Executive Director Gautam Birhade (52) has lodged a complaint with Koregaon Park police station. A case has been registered against an unidentified person who also tried to get the information of the contractors by asking in the same manner. He had received a call on December 26, 2020. The accused had kept the photo of a senior IAS officer as his display picture (DP) on WhatsApp.
