Baramati, 4th January 2022: The first body donation in Baramati city’s history took place today (4th January). Due to the newly started Government Medical College, body donation will now be possible in Baramati. Amrutlal Gandhi donated his body for the first time after college started.

Gandhi had expressed his desire to donate his body a few months ago. As per his wish, his younger brother Kiran Gandhi handed over his body to the medical college after his death. The certificate was presented to Kiran by Dr Chandrakant Mhaske, Dean of the college.

On Friday (30th December), the body of Amrutlal Gandhi (72) was brought from his home to the government college. Head of Anatomy Department, Dr Gitanjali Sudke, Dy Dean (UG) Dr Anjali Shete, Dr Wasim Hiroli, and Kiran Ghuge accepted it.

For the first time in four years, after the Government Medical College in Baramati was started, a body was donated and accepted. It was said that it will be used in the future for research purposes.

In Baramati, there was no facility for accepting bodies earlier. Four years after the college was started in Baramati, but no one came forward for the body donation, Amrutlal had expressed his desire to donate the body, while he was still alive, and his family donated his body as per his wishes.

“Donation is very important in Jain society, but Amrutlal Gandhi has set a different ideal by donating his body. As per his wishes, we, his family, donated his body,” said Kiran Gandhi, a resident of Baramati.
