Pune: Flash Floods Break Out In Kothrud, Water Logging Reported In Many Areas

Kothrud, 11th September 2022: Due to heavy rainfall, flash flood was witnessed in Kothrud.

Rains continued for more than two hours. Kothrud and Vanaz reported cases of water logging. The situation calmed down after a couple of hours as the rains slowed.

Elevated areas were safe. Water rushed down to Paud Road, causing problems on the main road. The rain continued even after 7:30 pm in the area.

Niket Adhia, a resident of Kothrud, said, “It was a sudden breakout. I was planning to go out to get some stuff for the hostel, but seeing the heavy downpour, I thought to stay back. It was scary.”

Subhash Bondre, the owner of Cafe 1 C.R, said, “We hope that the rains stop. Students usually hang out over here in the evening. Moreover, it was a Sunday, so the crowd was already less. These sudden rains have added salt to our wounds.”

 

There was no scope for improvement till late evening as there was a constant downpour. Water continued to log into the area. Streets were empty as people resorted to saying back. People kept safe by being inside their homes till the rains stopped. There was a short relief between 6 to 6:30 pm as the rains stopped. The break was short-lived as rains began again from 6:30 pm and went on for more than an hour.
