Hinjawadi, 19th June 2025: Amid ongoing heavy rainfall in the region, the Pune Irrigation Department has issued a flood alert for the Kasarsai Dam, which has now reached 74% of its total storage capacity. The warning comes as part of a precautionary measure to prevent potential downstream flooding in the Kasarsai stream (Kasarsai Nala).

According to the department, if rains persist or intensify in the catchment area, the rising water level may require controlled discharge through the dam’s spillway.

Public Advisory Issued-
In light of the situation, residents living in low-lying areas or near the Kasarsai Nala have been strongly advised to:
Avoid entering the riverbed under any circumstances.
Move livestock, personal belongings, and equipment away from the stream area.
Inform neighbors and vulnerable populations, particularly in flood-prone zones.
Remain alert to further announcements from the district administration and the irrigation department.

Officials have stressed that these measures are strictly preventive and aim to ensure public safety in case of a sudden water release.

According to D.M. Dubal, Executive Engineer, Pune Irrigation Division, “Due to continuous rainfall in the dam area, the water level is rising steadily. If necessary, water will be released through the spillway to maintain dam safety. Citizens are requested to cooperate and follow all instructions.”

Disaster Management on Standby
The district administration has activated disaster response teams, which remain on high alert. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have assured the public that emergency protocols will be followed swiftly if the water release becomes necessary.
