Pune Rural Police Launch ‘Harit Wari’ Campaign with 10,000 Tree Plantation Drive

Pune, 19th June 2025: In a significant step toward environmental conservation, the Pune Rural Police have launched a large-scale tree plantation campaign under the ‘Harit Wari’ and ‘One Crore Tree Plantation’ initiatives. Aligned with the vision of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the Director General of Police, the campaign aims to plant 10,000 saplings to promote ecological sustainability alongside the spiritual journey of the Ashadhi Wari.
The initiative was officially inaugurated on June 17, 2025, at Barhanpur, under the Baramati Sub-Division, with tree plantation led by Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill, Additional SP Ramesh Chopde, and Additional SP (Baramati Division) Ganesh Biradar.
To support the drive, the Forest Departments of Vadgaon Maval, Baramati, Saswad, and Paud have provided 10,000 saplings under the guidance of District Forest Officer Mohite. Tree planting will be conducted across all police stations and sub-divisional headquarters in Pune Rural, with each location contributing approximately 200 saplings.
Importantly, the initiative emphasizes not only plantation but sustained nurturing, care, and protection of the trees. Local police officers and personnel will be directly responsible for the upkeep of the planted saplings, ensuring long-term ecological impact.
The campaign is part of a broader environmental mission that involves collaboration between the Pune Rural Police, the District Forest Department, and the Social Forestry Department. It is seen as a commitment to creating a greener legacy for future generations, while integrating environmental awareness into the cultural fabric of the revered Wari tradition.
With growing concerns over climate change and deforestation, the Pune Rural Police’s initiative is being lauded as a model for responsible governance and environmental consciousness in public service.
