Yerwada, 18th December 2022: The flyover at Golf Course chowk whose work has been going on for more than three years will open soon. Even though the extension of six months has lapsed, the asphalting and painting work on the flyover is still pending. Now, as the ‘G20’ conference will be held in January, the administration has been given orders to open this flyover for traffic before that.

Traffic in this area was halted due to heavy traffic congestion at this intersection. Also, often in Pune, when the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Union Minister and other VIP persons travel on this road, the traffic on other roads in the Chowk has to be stopped. So it was decided to construct a flyover at Golf Club Chowk.

The work on this bridge was started in September 2019 after sanctioning an expenditure of Rs 31.05 crore for this work. As the slum dwellers of this area have to take a long detour to cross the road, they demanded a footpath under the bridge. Accordingly, this path was made available. It was expected to be completed in 30 months i.e. in April 2022. But due to Corona, the deadline was extended by six months.

The work was supposed to be completed in September, but work continues even though December is half over. Due to this, the citizens of this area have to suffer. The administration has claimed that after the flyover is opened, 70 per cent of the traffic at this intersection will be reduced. All the construction work on this bridge has been completed. The last stages of asphalting, safety plan, and painting are left.

G20 Council meetings will be held in January. About 250 representatives from 36 countries will be present on this occasion.
