Pune Forest Department Seizes 640 kg of Wild Boar Meat at Railway Station

Pune, 13th February 2026: In a significant crackdown on wildlife trafficking, the Pune Forest Department seized approximately 640 kilograms of wild boar meat at the Pune Railway Station on February 12.

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the smuggling of wildlife contraband, a designated team from the Forest Department intercepted a consignment at the railway station’s parcel department. The officials discovered seven large boxes containing the meat, which had arrived via the Nanded-Panvel Express.

According to preliminary investigations, the consignment was intended to be transported to Madgaon, Goa. The Forest Department has taken the accused involved in the transport into custody. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

Officials highlighted that the Wild Boar is a protected species listed under Schedule 2 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Hunting these animals and selling their meat is a serious criminal offense. The department has initiated a thorough investigation to trace the origins of the network and identify others involved in this poaching and smuggling racket.

The operation was executed under the guidance of Conservator of Forests (Territorial) Ashish Thakre, Deputy Conservator of Forests Mahadev Mohite, and Assistant Conservator of Forests Vishal Chavan.

The raid was led by Range Forest Officers Rishikesh Chavan and Suresh Varak. The team included Forest Guards Pramod Raskar, Shital Khandke, Manoj Parkhe, Priya Wakade, and Police Constable Amol Mote.

The Forest Department has appealed to citizens to stay vigilant against wildlife crimes.
