Hinjawadi/Pune, 3rd June 2026: A former Hindu woman employee of Wipro Technologies Limited has alleged that she was subjected to religious harassment and pressure to convert to Islam while working at the company’s Hinjawadi office.

The woman has filed a complaint with the Hinjawadi Police Station (Pimpri Chinchwad police) and served a legal notice on the company, seeking reinstatement and compensation.

Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare, in-charge of Hinjawadi police station, said that enquiry is being conducted after receiving the complaint and further legal action will be taken based on the enquiry report.

The allegations were made public during a press conference held at Pune Patrakar Bhavan in Pune. Representatives of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), legal counsel, and the former employee were present at the event.

According to the complainant, a female (Muslim) colleague allegedly interfered in her personal life and repeatedly encouraged her to enter into a relationship with a Muslim man and convert to Islam. The woman claimed she was told that accepting the proposal would lead to a more comfortable and prosperous life abroad.

The former employee alleged that the repeated suggestions caused her mental distress and that she eventually limited her interactions with the colleague to official work-related communication.

She further claimed that she reported the matter to senior company officials. However, according to her allegations, no action was taken on her complaint. Instead, she alleged that disciplinary proceedings were initiated against her after workplace tensions escalated.

The complainant also alleged that after she stopped responding to personal communications, the colleague recorded conversations without her consent and subsequently raised a counter-complaint through the company’s internal mechanisms.

The woman further alleged that certain officials and members of the management (which includes some Muslims also) failed to adequately address her concerns and instead acted against her despite the evidence she had submitted.

Addressing the media, Advocate Vivek Bhosale said the matter took a serious turn in August 2025 when the complainant was invited to a Microsoft Teams meeting by a company representative. According to the allegations, control of her office laptop was remotely accessed during the meeting, resulting in the submission of her resignation without her informed consent.

Bhosale stated that if the allegations are established, they could raise important questions regarding employment practices, workplace procedures, and compliance with principles of natural justice.

The former employee has served a legal notice on Wipro through her counsel. The notice argues that any resignation obtained under coercion is invalid and seeks reinstatement with continuity of service and back wages.

In addition, the notice seeks compensation of ₹50 lakh for alleged mental trauma and reputational damage, a formal written apology, and appropriate action against those allegedly involved in the matter.

According to the complainant’s legal team, civil, criminal, and labour law proceedings may be initiated if a satisfactory response is not received within 15 days.

Representatives of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti demanded a thorough investigation into the allegations. Speaking at the press conference, Sunil Ghanwat, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh State Coordinator of HJS, said the organisation would support the complainant in pursuing legal remedies.

Ghanwat said the allegations warranted a detailed inquiry and urged authorities to examine complaints of religious harassment and discrimination in workplaces wherever such concerns are raised.

The organisation also appealed to women who believe they have faced religious harassment or pressure to convert in professional environments to come forward and seek legal assistance.

At the time of publication, Wipro Technologies Limited had not publicly responded to the allegations.

“Our legal team will respond to the allegations by Thursday”, the company officials said.
