Pune: Four-Day Delay In Flyover Work At University Chowk, Decisions To Avoid Traffic Jams To Be Taken On Friday
Pune, 5th October 2022: The work of the additional two lanes at Chandni Chowk is planned to be completed this week. Therefore, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) have decided to start the flyover at Anandrishiji Chowk (in front of Savitribai Phule Pune University) to avoid traffic congestion.
As a result, it is clear that the work on this bridge will be delayed for another four days. A joint meeting of the Municipal Corporation, PMRDA and Traffic Police will be held on Friday (7th October).
PMRDA has completed all the planning to start the flyover work at Vidyapeeth Chowk. Demolition of the bridge at Chandni Chowk has been completed, and work on additional two lanes is ongoing. However, it will still take a few days to complete. If the bridge work is started at Vidyapeeth Chowk during the same period, the citizens may suffer due to traffic congestion at both places. Considering all these things, citizens may be inconvenienced after starting work.
Therefore, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has suggested that this work should be started on 10th October instead of 6th October. PMRDA Chief Engineer Vivek Kharwadkar informed that if this is done, the work of the additional two lanes in NDA Chowk will be completed, there will be smooth traffic, and the stress on Vidyapeeth Chowk will also be reduced.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of the Municipal Commissioner, PMRDA and Traffic Police has been called on Friday to decide in this regard. Kharwadkar also explained that this meeting will be held at 10:30 in the morning and a consensus decision will be taken on when to start the flyover work at the square.
Hence, the decision was taken to demolish the flyover at NDA Chowk early on Sunday and complete the work on the additional two lanes in the next eight days after it falls. Also, the decision to start the construction of a double-decker flyover at Vidyapeeth Chowk on 6th October was taken in the meeting of the Pune Metropolitan Transport Authority (Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority – PUMTA). Accordingly, the work of demolishing the bridge at NDA Chowk has been completed and the roadblock has also been removed. However, even after the demolition of this bridge, there was a traffic jam on the Pune-Mumbai Highway on Monday. At the same time, there was a traffic jam in Vidyapeeth Chowk. The work of additional two lanes at Chandni Chowk has been started. But this work is likely to take a week to complete. Till then, it will take time to smooth the traffic. Decisions will be taken in this regard.
