Pune: Four Laborers Trapped in 80-Feet-Deep Well Amid Sudden Collapse In Indapur

Indapur, 2nd August 2023: In Mhsobachi Wadi, four laborers got trapped in an 80-feet-deep well due to a sudden collapse while they were working. The situation called for immediate rescue efforts, and throughout the night, five cleaning machines have been working to lift soil and debris piles. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have joined the rescue operation, which is being conducted with utmost urgency.

The incident took place during the ongoing well construction in the Wadi area of Mhasoba in Indapur taluka of Pune district. The upper part of the well is comprised of clay, making the process of concretisation in 30-feet-deep soil necessary.

On Tuesday (1st August), four youths from Belwadi village were involved in the work. Unfortunately, they got trapped under the soil pile following a sudden collapse during their operation. Since then, efforts have been ongoing to lift the dusty and lumpy debris with the aid of four Poclain machines.

The four individuals involved in the incident are Somnath Laxman Gaikwad (32 years old), Javed Akbar Mulani (30 years old), Parashuram Bansilal Chavan (30 years old), and Manoj Maruti Chavan (40 years old). They were working on the well ringing when the unfortunate incident occurred.
When the workers did not return home in the evening as expected, a search began, leading to the discovery of their bikes near the well.

Concerned villagers suspected that the four individuals might be trapped under the debris. Subsequently, with the help of JCB and Poclain machines, the debris removal work commenced.

Tehsildar Srikant Patil of Indapur and Assistant Police Inspector Dilip Pawar of Bhigwan Police Station were assisting at the scene.

Furthermore, Sachin Sapkal, a member of the District Planning Committee, and several other youths have been tirelessly aiding in the rescue operation throughout the night. The Indapur MLA Dattatreya Bharne also arrived at the spot early in the morning to provide his support, and the NDRF personnel have been working diligently in the rescue efforts.
