Pune: French Company to Operate Shivajinagar–Hinjawadi Metro
Hinjawadi, 17th September 2025: The operation and management of the third Pune Metro corridor between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar will be handled by Keolis, a French private company, for the next ten years. The metro line is being developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) has signed an agreement with Keolis to formalize the partnership.
Developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the 23-km corridor has completed multiple trial runs. With nearly 87 percent of construction work finished, services are expected to begin in March 2026.
The metro line, which will include 23 stations, is being built at a cost of ₹8,313 crore. Of this, ₹1,315 crore has been invested by private companies, while ₹4,789 crore has been secured through loans from financial institutions. The Maharashtra government will provide ₹90.58 crore, and the central government will contribute ₹1,224.80 crore as viability gap funding.
This corridor is expected to significantly cut travel time between Shivajinagar, Pune’s central administrative hub, and Hinjawadi, which houses more than 1.5 lakh employees in its IT park. As part of the agreement, Keolis will be responsible for maintaining 22 metro trains supplied by Alstom, the 23 stations, and the ticketing system for the next decade.
All-Women Pilot Team
In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, Keolis announced that all the metro pilots on this corridor will be women. Globally, the company operates nine metro lines covering 452 km across six countries.
