Pune: Fresher’s Party Dispute at DY Patil College Leads to Attempted Murder of Student by Group of Eight

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 29th July 2025: A shocking incident of violence unfolded at DY Patil College in Sant Tukaram Nagar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, on Monday morning, when a student was brutally attacked with a koyta over a dispute related to the college’s fresher’s party. Two students were injured in the incident, and police have registered a case of attempted murder against eight accused.

The attack took place around 11:30 am. The victim, Tanmay Kamble (18), a resident of Kasarwadi, has filed a complaint at the Sant Tukaram Nagar Police Station. Following the report, police arrested Abhishek Giri, Alfan Pathan, Shivraj Talware, Nihal, Sohail Shaikh, Biraj Vishwakarma, Yash Pawar, and Adinath Gaikwad. A case of attempted murder and other relevant charges have been filed against them.

According to police, the violence was triggered after the complainant and his friend, Anish Pingle, were confronted by Abhishek Giri and Alfan Pathan regarding their attendance at the fresher’s party. The confrontation escalated with verbal abuse. Later, as the complainant exited the college, he was called to the college gate by the group, which included the accused.

During the ambush, Nihal allegedly rammed his black Activa scooter into Kamble. Sohail Shaikh then attacked him on the head and left hand with a koyta, causing severe injuries. Shivraj Talware, known to the complainant and a resident near his former home, also attacked him with a koyta, hitting him on the back. Both attacks were allegedly carried out with the intent to kill.

Witnesses reported that after the assault, the group brandished weapons and shouted slogans like, “We are the bhais of DY Patil College,” creating panic among students before fleeing the scene.

The Sant Tukaram Nagar Police are conducting a thorough investigation.
