Pune: Fruit, Flower And Vegetable Exhibition Draws Massive Crowd

Shivajinagar, 11th February 2023: On the occasion of the anniversary of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the 41st Fruits, Flowers and Vegetables Competition and Exhibition is organized at the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Garden, Jangli Maharaj Road, Shivajinagar. The exhibition started today and will last till tomorrow (February 12).

The opening ceremony of this exhibition was held today at 11.00 am by Vikram Kumar, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, Pune Municipal Corporation.

Ravindra Binwade Additional Municipal Commissioner, Ashok Ghorpade, Chief Garden Superintendent and Member Secretary of Tree Authority Office, Rahul Salunkhe, Executive Engineer (Garden), Priti Sinha Prasad Park Superintendent, Ketaki Ghadge (Assistant Health Officer) Solid Waste Department, Garden Department, and Tree Authority Department were present on the said occasion.

A musical performance was done by the Poona School and Home for the Blind Girls on the said occasion

To organize competitions and exhibitions of flowers, fruits, vegetables, trees, or plants and to assist private and public institutions in organizing such exhibitions, PMC organizes this kind of exhibition every year. It aims to create public awareness about the importance of trees and plants in human life.

In the competition, Western Regional Medicinal Plants Facility Center, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), River Improvement Project, Waste Management, Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Museum, Rainbow Environment Centre, Pushkarni Tilak Ayurveda College, Fredens of Bonsai, Prajapita Brahmakumaris Ishwar Vishwa Vidyalaya, Urban 95 Project, Mist India participated in the exhibition and set up an awareness stall.

In this exhibition, bonsai, wood sculpture, features garden, rangoli made from various fruits and vegetables, various floral arrangements, etc are organized for citizens of Pune. Also, a features garden has been created on the concept of saving the tree, maximum use of bicycles, a replica of the metro, and a replica of the Kedarnath temple.

On the occasion of the International Year of Coarse Grains 2023, replicas and rangolis made from various types of coarse grains have been drawn. On the occasion of the anniversary of the PMC, a nutritious cake made from various types of coarse grains was cut by small children.

The exhibition has a total of 12 sections and 218 sub-sections of different types. These include decorative leaf flower pot arrangements, collection of medicinal plants, rose flower arrangements, seasonal flowers, table decoration with different types of flowers, vegetable salad decoration for self-help group women, fruits, vegetable processed products, different types of garlands, flower bouquets, shells, flower braids.

Seasonal as well as perennial flowers like different types of dahlia, orchid, anthurium, gerbera rose, carnation, etc, are the major attraction of the exhibition.

The prize distribution ceremony of the winners of the various competitions held on the occasion of the said exhibition is organized on February 12 at 5.00 pm at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Garden, Jangli Maharaj Road, Shivajinagar, Pune.

In this exhibition, there will be stalls selling flowers, fruits, tree seedlings, gardening materials, seeds, and fertilizers, and will be open for the citizens on February 11 and 12, 2023 from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. Citizens should note that the said exhibition is open free of cost and a maximum number of citizens should take advantage of it.
