Pune: ‘Gaansaraswati Mahotsav’ on March 4, 5 at Keshavbaug

Pune, 21 February 2023: The 9th edition of ‘Gaansaraswati Mahotsav’, organized by Natyasampada Prathisthan, will be held in Pune on March 4 and 5 at Keshavbaug on D P Road, informed Prathishthan’s trustee Pandit Raghunandan Panshikar at a press conference held on Tuesday.

The Mahotsav is being held to pay a tribute to vocalist late Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar and her enormous contribution to Indian classical music. The opening session of the Mahotsav will be held on Saturday, March 4, from 4.30 PM to 10 PM. The second session will be held on Sunday, March 5, from 7 AM to 10 AM, while the concluding session of the music festival will be held on Sunday, March 5 from 4.30 PM to 10 PM. The daily ticket for the music festival is Rs 100, while the season ticket is Rs 200, informed Panshikar.

The music festival will start with the performance of Milind Tulankar, who will play the Jal-Tarang instrument. Then there will be a performance by noted vocalist Dr Alka Deo-Marulkar, which will be followed by performance of renowned flautist Pandit Rupak Kulkarni. The opening day will conclude with the performance of renowned vocalist Pandit Mukul Shivputra, son and disciple of Pandit Kumar Gandharva.

The first session of the second day will start with a performance of Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar, an exponent of Mewati Gharana and a disciple of Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj. Then there will be a performance by well-known Sitar player Budhaditya Mukherjee, who belongs to the Imdadkhani Gharana.

The concluding session will begin by performance of Bengaluru-based vocalist Vidushi Sangeeta Katti, a disciple of Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar. It will be followed by the performance of vocalist Padma Shri Shubha Mudgal. A solo table recital by Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, belonging to Farukhabad Gharana, will be the penultimate performance of the music festival, which will conclude with the performance of Pandit Raghunandan Panshikar, son of Prabhakar Panshikar and disciple of Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar.

Pandit Raghunandan Panshikar also announced that the ‘Gaantapaswini Mogubai Kurdikar Award, comprising Rs 51,000 cash and a memento, will be presented to vocalist Dr Alka Deo Marulkar, for her contribution to Indian classical music.

Pandit Raghunandan Panshikar also announced that ‘Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar Sangatkar Award’, comprising Rs 25,000 cash and memento, will be awarded to senior Tabla-player Omkar Gulwadi. Both the awards, initiated by Natyasampada Prathishthan, will be presented on Sunday March 5.

The tickets for ‘Gaansaraswati’ Mahotsav’ will be available at Balgandharva Rangmandir,Shivajinagar and Yashwantrao Chavan auditorium in Kothrud from Sunday February 26 from 10.00 AM.
