Pune: Gajanan Marne Gang Member Rupesh Marne Arrested from Mulshi for Assaulting Engineer in Kothrud

Kothrud, 28th October 2025: The Kothrud police have arrested Rupesh Marne, a key member of the Gaja Marne gang, in connection with the assault on computer engineer Devendra Jog during Shiv Jayanti celebrations in February this year. Rupesh was apprehended from Andgaon in Mulshi late Monday night after being on the run for several months.
According to police officials, since gang leader Gaja Marne has been in jail, Rupesh had been managing the gang’s activities in his absence. On February 19, computer engineer and BJP worker Devendra Jog was brutally beaten by members of the Marne gang near Kothrud, following an argument during a Shiv Jayanti procession.
Police said the altercation began when Jog tried to remove his bike from the procession route, leading to a heated exchange. Soon after, Rupesh and his accomplices allegedly attacked him. The incident sparked widespread outrage, prompting Union Civil Aviation Minister Muralidhar Mohol to demand strict action against the accused.
Following the attack, Rupesh went absconding, while police arrested three of his associates involved in the assault. Acting on a tip-off, a police team traced Rupesh’s movements and nabbed him from Andgaon in Mulshi on Monday night.
