Pune Ganeshotsav 2025: Immersion Procession Disputes to Be Resolved by August 25, Assures Commissioner Amitesh Kumar
Pune, 19th August 2025: Ahead of this year’s Ganeshotsav, officially declared a State Festival by the Maharashtra government, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has appealed to all departments, Ganesh mandals, and citizens to ensure the festival is celebrated peacefully, fearlessly, and enthusiastically.
A joint meeting of Ganesh mandal presidents was held at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir to discuss arrangements for a smooth celebration. District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Police Commissioners Manoj Patil, Rajesh Bansode, Pankaj Deshmukh, and mandal representatives were present.
Commissioner Kumar emphasized that mandals should avoid tableaux that could trigger disputes and take precautions during electrical work, especially during the ongoing monsoon. He instructed mandals to install CCTV cameras and remain alert to prevent emergencies. Traffic management, crowd control, and preventive measures against illegal liquor sales and individuals with criminal backgrounds have been put in place by the police.
Regarding the immersion processions, Kumar assured that a coordinated solution would be reached by August 25 to address concerns raised by mandals. He stressed equal treatment for all mandals and urged them to cooperate with authorities. Senior inspectors and traffic police will coordinate directly with mandal office bearers, and WhatsApp groups will be set up for communication.

Collector Dudi highlighted that government support would include electricity, roads, cleanliness, and water facilities. He urged mandals to create socially meaningful displays and ensure the festival gains recognition beyond Maharashtra. Municipal Commissioner Ram added that the number of portable toilets and other facilities will be increased compared to last year, and ward officials will coordinate with mandal representatives to resolve issues efficiently.
Several mandal representatives expressed concerns about dual roles in festival planning, lack of coordination, and administrative delays. They urged authorities to take a positive and cooperative approach, ensure fair treatment for all mandals, and prevent commercialization of the festival.
Experts and trustees, including Prof. Dr. Milind Bhoi of Vighnaharta Nyas, recommended improved coordination between the municipal corporation, MSEDCL, and police, and suggested publicizing officials’ contact numbers for assistance. Mandal representatives also highlighted the need to limit drum troupes, enforce time restrictions, and avoid unnecessary road closures during the immersion procession.
The meeting concluded with a unified call for collective responsibility, ensuring that Pune’s Ganeshotsav is celebrated safely, peacefully, and with grandeur.
