Pune Ganeshotsav 2026: 53,852 Ganesh Idols Immersed in Six Days, PMC Collects 68.6 Tonnes Nirmalya
Pune, 19th September 2026: As many as 53,852 Ganesh idols have been immersed in Pune over the past six days, while the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has collected 68,633 kg of nirmalya (floral offerings) during the ongoing Ganeshotsav, according to the civic body’s Solid Waste Management Department.
The PMC has made arrangements for Ganesh idol immersion across the city, including at river ghats, residential societies and public spaces. Artificial immersion tanks and iron water tanks have been installed at several locations, while idol collection stalls have also been set up for citizens who prefer to hand over their idols for appropriate disposal.
Between September 14 and September 19, a total of 8,402 Ganesh idols were immersed in artificial immersion tanks, while 34,119 idols were immersed in iron tanks. Another 11,331 idols were collected at designated collection centres.
The figures indicate that iron tanks have recorded the highest number of idol immersions among the facilities provided by the civic body.
During the same period, the PMC collected 68,633 kg of nirmalya, which will be processed and used for producing manure.
On the fifth day of Ganeshotsav, 20,289 idols were immersed at various locations across Pune. On the sixth day, which also saw the immersion of Gauri idols, 12,515 Ganesh idols had been immersed by 6 pm on September 19, the civic body’s Solid Waste Management Department said.
The PMC has provided immersion facilities at multiple locations as part of its arrangements for Ganeshotsav, with the aim of facilitating citizens and managing the environmental impact of the festival.
