Pune: Gang Of Mobile Thieves From Jharkhand Arrested, 52 Mobile Phones Seized
Pune 26th Sept 2023: The Pune City Police have arrested five people from Hadapsar area of the city and have seized 52 stolen mobile phones from their possession. All the accused arrested by Hadapsar Police are residents of Jharkhand state and they had come to Pune to steal mobile phones during the ganesh festival.
According to police, the thieves had stolen 20 mobile phones in a single day on September 23 from different areas in Hadapsar and other parts of the city. The arrested accused have been identified as Shyam Kumar Sanjay Ram (25), Vishal Kumar Ganga Mahato (21), Badal Kumar Motilal Mohato (25), Vicky Kumar Ganga Mahato (19). Two more accused identified as Gopi Mahato and Rahul Mahato have escaped from the city on September 25, said officials.
The arrested accused were found in possession of 12 stolen mobile phones while 40 more mobile phones were seized from the residence where they were staying in the city. According to police, the thieves had made planning in advance to steal mobile phones during the Ganesh festival by taking advantage of crowded places. Three of them met at Teen Pahad Station and arrived in the city on September 14 by Hatia Express. During the further investigation, it was revealed that the arrested and wanted accused already have a criminal record and one of the accused Vicky Kumar Ganga Mahato is wanted in a gang rape case registered in Jharkhand.
The Hadapsar Police have said that they have arrested a total of 9 accused involved in mobile theft cases in the last two days and nine accused have been arrested. A total of 72 mobile phones have been seized by Hadapsar Police in the last two days.
