Pune: Officials from the Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) have saved a girl from becoming terrorist of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or simply Islamic State (IS).

The 16-year-old Muslim girl is a student of class XI (science stream) in a city college. She had scored 90 percent marks in 10th standard.

Four months back she got curious about ISIS after watching news about it on television. While reading more about it, she came in touch with Mohammad Sirajuddin, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) manager, who was arrested by Rajasthan ATS about a week ago in Jaipur.

ATS officials said that the girl was so impressed by the ISIS propaganda that she began wearing burkha instead of jeans and t-shirt.

Investigations revealed that Sirajuddin was trying to lure youths to join ISIS and formed groups of about 200 persons from different countries and states of India. They mostly interacted on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, as well as WhatsApp and Telegram.

After getting information, ATS officials started counselling the girl by teaching true meaning of Islam with the Maulanas and Muslims from different fields.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Pune ATS) Bhanupratap Barge appealed parents to keep a watch on behaviour of their children and if they find any radical change they should inform the police.
