Pune: GM Deepan Chakkravarthy takes the lead in 1st RCPP Rapid and Blitz Chess Tournament

Pune, 6th May 2023: GM Deepan Chakkravarthy takes the lead in the 1st RCPP Rapid and Blitz All India Open Chess Tournament, organized by the Rotary club of Pune Pashan (RCPP) under the All India Chess Federation (AICF), Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA), and Pune District Chess Circle (PDCC).

In the seventh round, GM Chakkravarthy defeated GM Swayams Mishra to gain seven points and secure the top spot. The tournament is being held at PYC Hindu Gymkhana in Pune.

The tournament was inaugurated by Grand Master & FIDE senior trainer Mr. Abhijit Kunte, along with Mr.Niranjan Godbole, Secretary of MCA, Rtn. Abhay Sawant, Rtn. Vinayak Gulwani, Rtn. Vivek Ratnalikar, Mr.Prakash Kunte, and Chief Arbiter Swapnil Bansode.

In the seventh round, GM Diptayan Ghosh and CM Akshay Borgaonkar drew, securing 6.5 and 6 points, respectively. IM Shyaamnikhil P and GM Deep Sengupta drew, gaining 6 points each. IM Sammed Shete defeated IM Arghyadip Das with 6 points to 5.5 points. IM Mohammad Shaikh won against Vikas Sharma with 6 points to 5 points. IM Ameya Audi defeated Harshal Patil with 6 points to 5 points. IM Ratnakaran K defeated FM Sauravh Khherdekar with 6 points to 5 points.

In other matches, Keval Nirgun defeated IM Raahul VS with 6 points to 5 points. FM Sharan Rao won against Viresh Sharnarthi with 6 points to 5 points. Aakash Dalvi defeated Arnav Kherdekar with 6 points to 5 points, and Aanjaneya Phatak defeated Nihira Koul with 6 points to 5 points. Nithin Babu won against AFM Ishan Warudkar with 6 points to 5 points, while IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni drew with Manas Gaikwad with 5 points each. IM Abhishek Kelkar also drew with Aahan Sharma, with both players gaining 5 points.

The tournament has been a major attraction for chess enthusiasts, with participants from various parts of the country. The next rounds of the tournament are expected to be more intense as the players compete to secure the top spot.
