Pune, 20th September 2022: Tech and knowledge savvy Punekars can immerse themselves into a different experience with Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan bringing a unique ‘Infinite Library’, a Virtual Reality (VR) installation, which provides visitors a multi-sensory experience through story-telling, giving them a feel of future libraries. This installation will be available for experience between September 24th and 30th at ‘The Base’ opposite SNDT College in Kothrud. One can experience this futuristic concept absolutely free of cost. However, pre registration is mandatory through the ticket khidkee website.

Housed in a cave, the project houses a vast VR library – which is the central element and the visitors will also be able to experience elements like QR code game, holograms, 3D-printed objects, audio-visual works. Within this virtual space, The Infinite Library hosts smaller sub-libraries, all of which are connected by nature. Each VR room introduces one knowledge system dedicated to South Indian Puppetry, European Alchemy, and Polynesian Navigation from around the world. Master Puppeteer Gunduraju from Karnataka will showcase a shadow puppetry exhibition on September 24 by giving a demo of shadow puppets and will be narrating stories based on ‘Samudra Manthana’ at the time of inauguration.

Mika Johnson is the creative director of the Infinite Library, a project, which also aims to envision new alternative methods of knowledge transfer, while introducing the concept of Virtual Reality (VR) rooms and establishing a connection between VR, nature, and culture. The project is an immersive storytelling experience that visualizes different cultural backgrounds across past, present, and future, expanding the concept of the library into a cross-cultural concept of knowledge transfer through VR rooms.
