Good Samaritans disinfect religious places in Camp Pune

Pune, June 12, 2020: Amidst the lockdown relaxations approved by the government, the COVID-19 cases have spiked in Pune city and nearby areas. Local politicians, activists, police and health workers are together fighting the pandemic.

Javed Khan, president of Shiv Sena Pune Cantonment has taken up an initiative of sanitising places of worship like temples, mosques, church, Gurudwara and Buddha Vihar.

The Ummat social organisation’s workers are spraying disinfectant in religious places. Almost 25 holy sites including Kamathipura Mandir, Jain Mandir, HindKaran Mandal’s Ganesh Mandir, Jetvan Buddha Vihar, Hollywood Gurudwara, Wanowrie bazaar masjid, Koregaon Park’s Madari Masjid, and Station Masjid have been sanitised by the members of the organisation.

“It has only been three days of doing this godly work, but the response we are getting is huge. Priests have been calling us regularly and we will continue to do this work”, said Javed Khan who is also the president of the Ummat social organisation, PuneThe committee members have specified that ‘no donation whatsoever is required, and this work is done at the committee’s expense.’

 

Hasain Angrez, Mohsin Shaikh and Zeeshan Shaikh and other team members of the Ummat social organisation have been assisting as well. “This act of ours is only to spread communal harmony and unite everyone to fight against the deadly coronavirus,” summed Khan.
