Pune: Hadapsar Gang Members Face MCOCA Action For Serious Crimes Including Attempted Murder And Robbery
Hadapsar, 21st April 2023: Pune Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has initiated a crackdown on crime in the city under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). In a recent development, MCOCA action has been taken against five members of the Rajan Lawand gang in the Hadapsar area.
According to the police, the gang members, including leader Rajan Raghunath Lawand, Om alias Pintu Vinod Bhandari, Rishikesh alias Meghraj Praveen Shitole, Roshan Hanumant Sonkamble, and Sagar Shivaji Ghayatdak, had committed serious crimes such as kidnapping, attempted murder, robbery, and grievous hurt. The gang had beaten up a man in anger over the murder of Aniket Ghayatdak, who died during treatment.
Although the Hadapsar police had previously arrested five people from the Rajan Lawand gang in this case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Vikrant Deshmukh externed gang leader Rajan Lawand for two years. However, further police investigation revealed that the gang had repeatedly committed serious crimes.
Following this, Arvind Gokule, Senior Inspector of Hadapsar Police Station, proposed MCOCA action against the Lawand gang to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, who later approved it. This is the 22nd MCOCA action taken by Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar.
The crackdown under MCOCA is aimed at reducing crime in the city, particularly organized crime. The police are determined to bring the criminals to justice and ensure that the city remains a safe place for its residents.
