Pune: Heavy Rainfall Causes Widespread Flooding and Traffic Jams in Pimpri-Chinchwad
Pimpri, 23rd September 2023: Heavy rainfall lashed Pimpri-Chinchwad city on Saturday, causing widespread flooding and traffic disruptions. The downpour began around 3 pm and continued until 6:30 pm, affecting various parts of the city including Pimpri, Chinchwad, Bhosari, Akurdi, Nigdi, Wakad, Sangvi, and Pimple Nilakh.
The heavy rains led to water pooling in potholes, causing roads to flood. Traffic was severely affected due to water accumulation in areas like Morwadi, Kasarwadi, and Kundannagar. Long queues of vehicles were observed, leading to a massive traffic jam on the Pimpri to Chinchwad road.
Disaster Management Officer Omprakash Bahiwal stated that the municipal system is on high alert to deal with the situation.
The city had already experienced an increase in rainfall on Friday evening. The skies remained cloudy from Saturday morning, leading to the heavy downpour in the afternoon.
While the heavy rain subsided by the evening, a light drizzle continued.
