Lonavala, 17th June 2025: The popular hill station of Lonavala continued to experience intense monsoon showers for the second straight day, recording 109 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours on Monday. With this, the city has received a total of 252 mm of rainfall in just two days, marking an early and aggressive start to the monsoon season.

According to local authorities, this year’s rainfall is significantly higher than last year’s. As of now, Lonavala has received 900 mm (35.43 inches) of rain, compared to just 310 mm (12.20 inches) during the same period last year.

The downpour, which began on Sunday night, continued throughout Monday with intermittent heavy showers. Waterlogging was reported in several low-lying areas of the city, including Badri Vishal Society, Bapdev Road in Tungarli, and nearby neighborhoods. Roads were submerged, making movement difficult for commuters and local residents.

In addition, tree-fall incidents were reported near Tungarli Rural Police Station and in Khandala Gaonthan, further disrupting normal life.

One of the key highlights this season is the early overflow of the Bhushi Dam, which usually attracts a large number of tourists during monsoon. Due to the early and intense rainfall, the dam has started overflowing 15 days ahead of its usual time. The Pune District Administration has issued prohibitory orders restricting entry into waterbodies and waterfalls for safety reasons.

The local administration has advised caution while traveling to or within Lonavala, especially in hilly and waterlogged areas. With more rain expected over the coming days, emergency services remain on alert to respond to any potential risks.
