Pune, 21st December 2022: From Nashik Phata to Chakan, a “High-Speed Elevated Metro Neo Marg” will be built instead of a regular metro route.

During peak hours, five to 15 thousand people travel per hour in tier two or three cities of the country.

‘Metro Neo’ is a public transport solution that can carry this number. The Neo coaches will operate on rubber tyres rather than tracks, and the coaches, facilities, stations and everything else will be like the Metro. The Neo is powered by electricity and has wheels made of rubber. A coach will have a capacity of 180 to 250 people. Neo-Metro runs with three coaches. Neo is preferred because its price is lower than that of Metro.

Because of the rising populace of Pimpri-Chinchwad and expanding industrialization in the surrounding rural regions, the issue of the public vehicle framework is not complicated in the future, so a metro network is being built.

According to this, the local people’s representatives pursued a metro route from PCMC main building in Pimpri to Nigdi and Hinjawadi to Chakan. The approval of these two metro lines was required. As a result, on the Hinjawadi-to-Chakan route, it has been decided to construct Neo Metro rather than the metro from Nashik Phata to Chakan (23 km). This information was provided by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in response to a question posed by MLAs Madhuri Misal and Laxman Jagtap in the legislature.

According to Chief Minister Shinde, Mahametro submitted a detailed project report for the Nashik Phata to Chakan route at the request of the PCMC for approval. The Municipal Corporation then asked Mahametro to shorten the route from Bhosari District Center to Chakan and turn this route into Metro Neo. The Municipal Corporation suggested moving HCMTR Metro Neo from Nashik Phata to Bhosari and Metro Neo from Bhosari District Center to Chakan in this regard. Accordingly, the work of preparing DPR from Bhosari District Center to Chakan Metro Neo through Mahametro is in progress.

On 27th February 2019, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the extended Pimpri-Chinchwad-Nigdi route was approved by the State Government. This proposition was sent by the state government to the central government for approval. The Center had made some observations about the proposal and was told to send a new DPR. As a result, on February 25 of this year, the state government sent the revised project report to the Center. Chief Minister Shinde also explained in the legislature that the central government is currently considering this proposal.
