Pune, 2nd February 2025: The much-awaited 24-km six-lane elevated road from Ravet to Narhe on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass, Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, has hit a roadblock due to pending approval from the central government. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has prepared a detailed project report (DPR), but the delay in clearance means that the traffic congestion in Hinjawadi’s IT Park will persist for at least another year.

The proposed six-lane elevated corridor aims to decongest the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, passing through Wakad, Tathawade, Punawale, Ravet, Balewadi, Baner, Sus, and Bavdhan. The total cost of the project is estimated at ₹2,000 crore, with an additional ₹600 crore allocated for service roads. While the DPR has been submitted to the Finance Ministry committee for approval, NHAI officials confirmed that clearance is still pending.

Meanwhile, NHAI has approved service road widening along the highway in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, and nearby rural areas. In the first phase, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will initiate land acquisition and road widening from Ravet to Wakad, followed by concretization of service roads from Wakad to Khed Shivapur.

Once approved, the elevated road project will be executed in three phases:

  1. Ravet to Balewadi
  2. Balewadi to Warje
  3. Warje to Narhe

“The DPR has been sent to the Union Road Development Ministry for final approval. Once cleared, the tendering process will begin, followed by the actual construction work,” said Ankit Yadav, Manager, Technical Department, NHAI.

The delay in approvals has frustrated commuters, particularly IT professionals in Hinjawadi, who continue to face severe traffic congestion during peak hours.
