Pune, 30th August 2022: According to authorities of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the 23-km Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar elevated third Pune Metro line will be completely operational from April 2025 with the integrated double-deck flyover at University Chowk to be finished by November 2024.

The integrated flyover connects Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi, two IT hubs, on Pune’s third Metro line. According to officials, it will launch immediately rather than gradually, as was the case with the other two lines of the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro).

Rahul Mahiwal, the commissioner of PMRDA, stated that the projects’ schedules have been followed and that the entire initiative will be finished in the three years specified.

He also said, “After the commencement date last year, work on the Metro line began. Pier and piling work is ongoing. We are aiming to reduce traffic so that activity can start since the integrated flyover project, which will combine the Metro line and the flyover below, is about to start. It is proposed to build ramps on 1.7 km and add underpasses to this integrated flyover to relieve congestion.’’

The PMRDA commissioner is also exploring other diversions, such as using the Pune Rural police headquarters route and Millenium Gate through the varsity as alternate options, because regular snarls continue to occur at this chowk despite the rerouting of traffic.

The action is in response to the directives of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and MLA Chandrakant Patil, who gathered on Saturday to discuss the congestion around University Circle and Chandni Chowk. The state government has agreed to contribute Rs 300 crores for the integrated flyover, according to a previous statement by the PMRDA commissioner.
