Pune : Homeless girl lends helping hand for Kolhapur, Sangli flood victims

Pune, August 11, 2019 : A group of youths have been collecting relief materials in Pimple Saudagar, for flood victims in Sangli and Kolhapur district. They were moved by efforts of a homeless girl who came forward to donate cash for the flood victims.

She gave a message that everyone can join hands to support people affected due to heavy rains, floods in the state, said Somnath Lohar, Ravikumar Bansode and Ganesh Partkar, who are collecting the relief materials in Pimple-Saudagar.

The administration is making hectic efforts to evacuate the marooned people to safer places in flood-ravages regions. So far 4.48 lakh such people have been shifted to safe places and they are sheltered in 372 temporary shelter camps. A total of 105 rescue and relief teams including 32 SDRF, Army, navy, Coast Guard etc. are active in the flood-hit region, informed the State Disaster Control Room today.
Maximum rescue and relief teams are deployed in worse-hit Kolhapur and Sangli districts. In Kolhapur, 54 teams are working while in 51 teams are active in Sangli district. Besides, teams are deployed in Pune, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Sindhudurg, Nasik, Dhule and Nagpur.

4.48 people from 10 districts in the state have been evacuated to safer destinatios. This included 2.45 lakh from Kolhapur district and 1.59 lakh from Sangli district.

226 boats are employed to ferry people in flood-ravaged districts to safe places. For the affected people 372 temporary relief camps have been started where they are provided essential services along with medical facilities.

A total of 761 villages in 70 talukas of Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Thane, Nasik, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts are ravaged by the unprecedented floods and rescue and relief operations are goinf on in full swing in these places.
