Pune Hooch Tragedy: Shiv Sena Destroys Illegal Liquor Dens in Hadapsar, Questions Police
Hadapsar, 30th May 2026: Amid widespread public outrage following the deaths of 19 people in Pune’s recent toxic liquor tragedy, Shiv Sena launched an aggressive campaign against illegal liquor operations in the Hadapsar area on Saturday.
Led by Pune City Shiv Sena chief Pramod Nana Bhangire, party workers conducted a drive targeting alleged illicit country liquor brewing units operating in various parts of the Hadapsar constituency, including Krishnanagar, areas behind the Tarawade Vasti police chowky, and Sathe Vasti. During the operation, Shiv Sena workers demolished makeshift brewing setups and destroyed hundreds of litres of allegedly illicit country liquor.
Addressing the media during the drive, Bhangire questioned the functioning of law enforcement agencies. “Ordinary citizens can clearly see these illegal liquor dens and the open sale of illicit liquor. Why are they not visible to the Pune Police?” he asked.
He further alleged that illegal liquor businesses had been operating in several parts of the city for years, creating a public perception that such activities continue with the knowledge of authorities. He claimed that such operations could not function openly without official patronage and demanded accountability from the police and concerned departments.
Bhangire also sought answers from authorities regarding their response to the recent hooch tragedy, which claimed 19 lives. He said the public deserved an explanation as to how such illegal activities continued despite the risks posed to citizens.
According to Shiv Sena leaders, the party has consistently raised concerns over illegal liquor sales, illicit brewing units, and other unlawful activities in the Hadapsar area over the years. They described the continued operation of illegal liquor outlets even after the recent deaths as a matter of serious concern.
The party warned that it would intensify its agitation against liquor mafias and illegal liquor traders in the coming days. Shiv Sena leaders asserted that illegal liquor businesses would not be tolerated in Pune and pledged stronger action against those endangering public lives through the sale of spurious liquor.
A large number of Shiv Sena office-bearers, branch heads, workers, and local residents participated in the campaign. Among those present were Pramod Nana Bhangire, Pravin Hilge, Vikram Ghadge, Rohit Bhalchim, Prakash Kalgude, Ganesh Salunkhe, Mauli Salunkhe, Ravi Lokhande, Suraj Khillare, and hundreds of Shiv Sena workers and citizens.
