Kothrud, 11th January 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) recently painted the perimeter wall of a housing society without obtaining consent from the community.

After receiving a complaint from the Swapnashilp Society in Kothrud against the PMC’s painting of the compound wall with G20-related advertisements, the latter has consented to repaint the wall’s perimeter. The civic body had been urged by the society to either pay the fees or repaint the wall.

The west side of the society, City Pride Kothrud, has a 400-foot long and seven-foot-high wall, according to the Swapnashilp society’s letter. The Karvenagar Zonal Office of the Pune Municipal Corporation painted the wall without first obtaining consent.

The housing society is requesting fees following the 2003 advertisement policy, or it will have the wall painted.

In response to the letter, PMC stated: “Pune Municipal Corporation has completed a wall painting on the boundary of the society next to the Ward Office following the directives received from the Central Government and Maharashtra Government to raise public awareness about G20 summit meetings. The Pune Municipal Corporation has no intention of profiting from this. The wall will shortly be repainted.”

The wall was painted with G-20 murals four days ago, according to Prashant Kadam, secretary of the Swapnashilp Society. “We have asked PMC to paint it again. The PMC has approved it and stated that it will begin repainting after the G20 summit.”
