Pune: Husband Kills Wife Months after Marriage, Tries to Pass off Murder as Accident
Pune, 7th April 2026: A 29-year-old man has been arrested by police for allegedly murdering his wife and attempting to pass it off as an accidental fall from a balcony, police said.
The incident took place in the Bibwewadi area, where the accused, identified as Shubham Shrikant Ghodke, allegedly killed his 23-year-old wife Sarika Ghodke. The couple had been married for only a few months.
According to police, frequent arguments had erupted between the two soon after their marriage, and the accused reportedly suspected his wife’s character. On March 24, a heated argument broke out again, during which Shubham allegedly assaulted Sarika using some kitchen objects, causing severe injuries that led to her death on the spot.
In an attempt to cover up the crime, the accused allegedly rushed Sarika to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead. He then told police that she had accidentally fallen from the balcony, trying to portray the death as a mishap.
However, officers grew suspicious after noticing the nature of injuries on the victim’s body, which did not match the claim of a fall. A detailed probe was initiated by Bibwewadi police.
During sustained questioning, inconsistencies emerged in the accused’s statements. Police said he repeatedly changed his version of events and appeared evasive. Confronted with technical and circumstantial evidence, the accused eventually broke down and allegedly confessed to the murder.
A case of murder has been registered against him at Bibwewadi police station, and further investigation is underway.
