Pune: Husband Murders Wife, Commits Suicide Near Khadakwasla Dam

Khadakwasla, 26th February 2024: A shocking incident took place on Sunday evening behind the National Defence Academy (NDA) in the Peacock Bay area, as a husband brutally killed his wife by throwing a stone at her head. Later the husband, identified as Somnath Sakharam Wagh (53) from Warje, hanged himself from a tree.

The victims have been identified as Somnath Sakharam Wagh and his wife, Suvarna Somnath Wagh (35). The incident has prompted the registration of a murder case against Somnath Wagh. The motive behind this gruesome act is yet to be determined.

According to the police, the couple set out from their residence on a two-wheeler around 9:30 AM on Sunday. They reached the Peacock Bay area behind NDA via Uttamnagar, parking their bike by the road.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam said, “An offence under section 302 IPC is being registered at Uttamnagar police station. The man killed his wife in the forest area near Kudje village, adjacent to Khadakwasla dam. She was his second wife. He assaulted his wife with stones before hanging himself from a tree using his track pants. Both bodies have been sent for autopsy at Sasson hospital. Further investigation is underway.”

When the couple had not returned home, their daughter and nephew initiated a search. In the evening, the missing bike was located in the Peacock Bay area, leading to the discovery of Suvarna’s lifeless body. Somnath was found hanging from a nearby tree.

Uttamnagar police were alerted to the incident, and a team, led by DCP Kadam, ACP Vasant Kunwar, and Senior Police Inspector Yusuf Shaikh, along with Assistant Police Inspector Amrita Chaure, ASI Prasad Joshi, and other staff, promptly reached the spot.

Police are further investigating the case.
