Pune: Illegal Warkari Residential Institute in Alandi Shut Down After Abuse Allegations; 47 Children Rescued
Alandi, 10th March 2026: Authorities have shut down an unauthorised residential Warkari education institute in Alandi after allegations of abuse involving a 12-year-old girl surfaced. Following the complaint, officials carried out a surprise inspection at the facility and discovered several serious violations related to child welfare, safety and basic management of the institute.
During the inspection, officials found that the institute was operating without the required permissions. Several irregularities were noted, including the absence of verified admission records and Aadhaar details of the children. The facility also lacked essential staff such as security personnel and caretakers. Officials further observed poor sanitation conditions and the absence of a structured nutrition plan for the children staying at the institute.
The inspection was conducted by a joint team from the Women and Child Development Department, the District Child Protection Unit and the Alandi Municipal Council. The team was led by Alandi Municipal Council Chief Officer Madhav Khandekar and included Deputy Commissioner Varsha Pawar, Assistant Commissioner Yogesh Jadhav and District Child Protection Officer Mangesh Jadhav.
Following the inspection, authorities shifted 47 children residing at the institute to government-recognised care homes to ensure their safety. The children have been relocated to facilities in Phulgaon and other nearby areas where arrangements for proper supervision, education and care have been made.
Officials have appealed to the public to remain alert and report any institutions operating illegally or housing children in unsafe conditions so that timely action can be taken.
