Kalewadi, 27th October 2023: Students at the Kalewadi school under the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) are facing inconveniences due to a shortage of classrooms. At times, teachers are compelled to conduct joint classes for two different grades in a single classroom.

The Kalewadi School follows a unique schedule where girls attend classes in the morning session and boys in the afternoon session. The total student population in both sessions amounts to approximately 550. However, the school currently has only seven classrooms, which is insufficient for the growing number of students.

The shortage of classrooms primarily impacts the girls’ school in the morning session. Students in this session are forced to study in nine separate blocks due to the limited availability of classrooms. The lack of adequate classroom space has resulted in the necessity of merging students from two different classes into a single classroom. Moreover, the school struggles to accommodate essential materials and documents due to the lack of storage space.

On the premises, the old headmaster’s office is situated downstairs near the entrance. Additionally, the principal of the morning session has established a separate office on the first floor within a classroom, reducing the number of available classrooms. This leaves insufficient space for storing documents from both schools.

In the afternoon session, the second floor is utilized for children’s classes. A significant portion of the available space on this floor is occupied by storage cupboards for various materials, with the remaining area used for student seating.

In addition to the problem of inadequate classrooms, the school is grappling with other issues such as a leaking roof, which is temporarily repaired. There is also a lack of a proper playing field for students.

Furthermore, the school faces challenges related to the insistence on two separate offices by the principals of the two sessions due to the inadequate classroom space. Some staff have established their own offices, further exacerbating the space issues. In light of these concerns, there is a pressing need for intervention by the municipal administration to provide guidance and instructions for resolving these challenges.
