Pune: Indian Air Force Conducts Search For Fallen Sukhoi Fighter Jet Part, Halts Due To Leopard Concerns

Shirur, 18th October 2023: A search operation is underway for a 60-70 feet long pipe-like metal part that detached from a Sukhoi fighter jet during a practice session. The incident occurred around noon on Tuesday (17th October) in the Ganjewadi area of Kavthe Yemai village (Taluka Shirur).

An IAF team, along with the local police, launched an immediate search operation to locate the fallen part. Guided by Police Inspector Sanjay Jagtap of Shirur Police Station, and including Police Sub-Inspector Amol Panhalkar and Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Sunil Ugle, the search resumed on Wednesday morning.

However, the search was halted due to concerns over the darkness and potential leopard activity in the area. Despite this, no damage was reported as the aircraft part landed in a secluded area.

The incident quickly gained traction on social media, leading local residents to rush to the site and participate in the search operation.

Attempts to contact the Air Force for more information about the incident were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
