Pune, 12th December 2024: In a first-of-its-kind event in India, the majestic Sinhagad Fort will host the inaugural Everesting competition from December 13 to December 15, 2024. Jointly organized by the Maharashtra Tourism Department and Simple Steps Fitness, the event promises a unique endurance challenge for fitness enthusiasts.

Participants will attempt to match the elevation of Mount Everest (8,848 meters) by climbing Sinhagad Fort 16 times via the ghat road, in what is called “Full Everesting.” Those opting for “Half Everesting” will complete eight climbs. To make the event inclusive, fun options like the Midnight Fun Run/Walk, where participants climb once under the full moon, have also been introduced.

“Everesting challenges have grown popular globally for their emphasis on mental and physical endurance. We are thrilled to bring this concept to India for the first time,” said Ashish Kasodekar, founder of Simple Steps Fitness. “Sinhagad’s historical and natural beauty makes it the perfect venue for such an event.”

The event’s base camp and starting point will be at the Patanjali Atmabodh Wellness Center. During the competition, Sinhagad’s ghat road will remain closed to regular traffic, except for essential services. Participants will have access to route support, food, medical aid, and transportation back to the starting point after every ascent.

Speaking at the press conference held on December 10, Shama Pawar, Deputy Director of Maharashtra Tourism Pune Department, said, “This initiative not only promotes fitness but also puts Maharashtra on the map for hosting innovative sporting events. We hope this competition will attract both local and national participants, further boosting tourism in the region.”

Highlighting the significance of the event, Kasodekar added, “The endurance required for Everesting mirrors the resilience of the human spirit. We want participants to not just test their limits but also connect with the heritage of Sinhagad.”
