Pune: Uruli And Shivajinagar Stations To Become Terminal Hub – Railway Minister
Pune, 12th December 2024: Baramati MP Supriya Sule commended the Railway Ministry for its efforts in improving cleanliness at railway stations in Maharashtra during the ongoing winter session of Parliament on Wednesday. While praising the progress, she also raised concerns about the reduction in train stoppages at key stations like Daund, Nira, Baramati, and Jejuri.
“In Maharashtra, the Railway Ministry has done commendable work in terms of cleanliness, and I would like to congratulate the team for their efforts,” Sule stated. However, she also highlighted a pressing issue regarding the reduction of train halts at several important stations. “At Daund Junction, for instance, the number of trains stopping has dropped from 80 to 40. This reduction is impacting the economic activities in these areas,” she noted, requesting the ministry to reinstate stoppages at these stations.
Responding to her concerns, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed gratitude for the acknowledgement. “I thank the MP for appreciating the efforts of the Railways under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said. Addressing the issue of train stoppages, Vaishnaw assured that the matter would be reviewed.
He also provided updates on ongoing and future projects aimed at bolstering railway infrastructure in Maharashtra. “The Pune-Daund corridor holds significant importance, and we have developed a comprehensive master plan for this region. It includes building a mega terminal at Uruli, a complete redevelopment of Pune railway station, transforming Shivajinagar station into a terminal, constructing a third and fourth line between Pune and Lonavala, and introducing a new line between Pune and Ahmednagar. Maharashtra is set to benefit from an investment of ₹1.6 lakh crore in various railway projects,” he elaborated.
Railway officials in Pune confirmed that work on several of these projects is either underway or set to commence soon.
