Pune: Industrialist Rahul Bajaj Cremated With Full State Honours

Navi Peth, 13 February 2022: The last rites of industrialist Rahul Bajaj were performed by his sons Rajiv and Sanjiv at Vaikunth crematorium in Navi Peth, Pune, today.
The mortal remains were kept at the Bajaj Auto plant in Akurdi for people to pay their respect. It was brought to the crematorium at 4.45 pm in an ambulance. There was a heavy police bandobast at the crematorium.
Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil, MP Supriya Sule, Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta, District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, Mayor Murlidhar Mohol, Baba Ramdev were also present alongwith people from different walks of life.
Rahul Bajaj (83), an awardee of Padma Bhushan as well as a former member of parliament (Rajya Sabha), passed away yesterday. He had pneumonia and a heart-related illness. Bajaj was not keeping well for some time and was admitted to Pune’s Ruby Hall for almost a month.
Born in 1938 in Kolkata, Bajaj had taken over the reins of Bajaj Group in 1965. Under his leadership, Bajaj Group had become the largest manufacturer of two-wheelers. He had resigned as the Chairman of Bajaj Auto in April last year.
