Pune: INS Shivaji Celebrates World Environment Day-23 with Tree Plantation and Cleanliness Drive

Lonavala, 9th June 2023: INS Shivaji, the esteemed marine engineering training institute of the Indian Navy situated in Lonavala, celebrated World Environment Day-23 with the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. The Naval unit organized a series of activities to raise awareness about the environment, including a cleanliness drive, tree plantation drive, an online lecture for students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, and a painting competition for children in the station.

Service personnel and their families enthusiastically participated in planting over 500 saplings across the sprawling campus of INS Shivaji nestled amidst the picturesque Sahyadris in Pune district. Additionally, the unit conducted a thorough cleanship drive within the base and at various locations including Nausena Baug, Bushi Dam, and Tata Dam. The collective efforts yielded the collection and proper disposal of approximately 1350 kg of plastic waste.

The initiative taken by INS Shivaji on World Environment Day-23 showcased their commitment to combatting the menace of plastic pollution. By engaging in activities that promote cleanliness, tree plantation, and education, the institute aimed to create a positive impact on the environment and encourage sustainable practices.
