Chakan, 9th June 2023:Frequent power outages in Pune’s industrial areas, including Chakan, Ranjangaon, and Pimpri Chinchwad, have dealt a severe blow to local businesses, resulting in a significant decline in revenue. In May, the situation reached its worst point, with entrepreneurs estimating that their total revenue for the month dropped by 25% to 40% due to the persistent power cuts.

During May alone, industrial units experienced around 120 hours of power outages, with additional load shedding implemented by MahaTransco due to unit failures and overload. As a consequence, businesses are struggling to meet their delivery schedules, further impacting their operations.

Pimpri Chinchwad houses over 13,000 small units, while Chakan accommodates more than 3,200 small and large industrial units. Industry representatives have voiced their concerns about the situation, emphasizing the need for immediate action. They revealed that power supply interruptions have continued into June, exacerbating the challenges faced by businesses.

The impact of the outages is evident in the reduced order fulfillment rates reported by affected companies. For instance, a manufacturer of auto parts for tractors stated that they could only deliver 60% of their orders last month, causing a disruption in the supply chain and affecting their clientele.

Pimpri Chinchwad has become a hotspot for power outages, with around 40 affected areas experiencing daily disruptions lasting between 1.5 and 3 hours. This has led to decreased production levels and increased expenses without a proportional increase in revenue, resulting in significant financial losses for local industries.

Chakan is facing a similar situation, with industrial units witnessing a production drop of over 25%. Delayed deliveries have become a cause for concern, as businesses may face penalties or even contract termination from their clients. The overall financial impact on Chakan’s industries is estimated at approximately Rs 250 crore per day.

The persistent power outages in Pune’s industrial areas have created a pressing need for immediate intervention to ensure stable power supply. Failure to address this issue promptly could further hinder productivity, disrupt supply chains, and impede the growth of these crucial industries.
