Pune: JSPM’s Rajarshi Shahu College of Engineering Hosts Student Solar Ambassador Workshop on Gandhi Jayanti

Tathawade, 8th October 2023: In celebration of the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Department of Electrical Engineering at JSPM’s Rajarshi Shahu College of Engineering, an Autonomous Institute affiliated with SPPU, Pune, played a significant role as a workshop associate for the global event titled “Students Solar Ambassador Workshop.” The initiative was led by Prof. Chetan Solanki from the Energy Swaraj Foundation at IIT Bombay and took place on October 2, 2023.

The primary objective of the workshop was to promote self-sufficiency in energy for sustainability, especially for those who lack access to reliable power sources. In today’s era, it is possible to provide complete, cost-effective, reliable, and sustainable solar energy access while simultaneously protecting the environment, creating livelihood opportunities, and empowering local communities. The Student Solar Ambassador Workshop aimed to sensitize young generations to the potential of solar energy.

Mrs. Manjusha A. Kanawade, the workshop coordinator, provided insights into the workshop’s underlying concept. Dr. S. L. Chavan, Head of the Electrical Department, discussed the prospects and contributions of the Electrical Engineering Department. Prof. A. S. Devasthali, Deputy Director of RSCOE, emphasized that science and technology development alone would not suffice for sustainable existence on Earth, stressing the importance of conscious actions towards sustainable energy practices. Prof. Anil Bhosale, JSPM Director, addressed participants, highlighting the critical role of solar energy in ensuring the endurance of human beings.

The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mr. Atul Bengeri, an Industry Entrepreneur & Academician, who shared insights into the significance of renewable energy sources.

Prof. S. L. Bhilare, Assistant Executive Director of JSPM RSCOE, Mr. Ravi Sawant, Vice President of TSSM Group, Dr. R. K. Jain, Director of JSPM RSCOE, heads of various departments, faculty members, and parents of the participants expressed their appreciation for the event. Dr. T. J. Sawant, Founder Secretary of the JSPM group, commended the efforts of the workshop organizing committee.

Ms. Amruta S. Udapurkar extended a vote of thanks, acknowledging the unwavering support of student volunteers throughout the event. The program concluded with a pledge of non-violence towards the environment, aligning with Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of sustainability and self-reliance.
