Pune, 2nd February 2023: Residents of Dmart lane in Kalyani Nagar have been complaining of the poor conditions and ruckus on the road for a while now. Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar, in conjunction with residents from housing societies, conducted a drive along this road.

Hawkers operating were engaged and told to clear their wares and allow free passage. Food stalls with gas cylinders were informed of the fire hazard. Littering by users was also noted. “Vendors were instructed to collect garbage and sweep the area at all times,” residents said.

The residents identified poorly maintained medians, trees which needed trimming, broken footpath surfaces, and obstructions created by hawkers.

Hawkers were told to ensure they shut the shop at the timings stipulated by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and police.

The residents captured photos which will be sent to authorities for their action. Residents demanded that hawkers be relocated to a specific hawkers zone on some vacant plots nearby. Obsolete No Parking signage was identified for relocation. Drain chambers and manholes were seen to be much lower than the road surface and identified for building up.

In a letter addressed to the Yerwada Police, the residents elaborately drew a picture of the issue, focusing on encroachment and illegal possession and noise pollution. The residents have pointed out the main reasons behind their issues are illegal hawkers and illegally modified bike silencers.
