Pune: Key Qualities for Global Success Discussed at SIMS Lecture on Entrepreneurship
Pune, 13th December 2024: The International Lecture Series at Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies, Pune, is ideated by Brig. (Dr.) Rajiv Divekar, Director, SIMS and Dean, Faculty of Management, SIU, and is conducted under his guidance. It aims to enhance students’ understanding of global business practices and entrepreneurship through insightful sessions with international experts.
The second lecture in the series was conducted for MBA students at SIMS, Pune, on December 12, 2024. Dr. Raunica Ahluwalia, a distinguished professor at Seneca Polytechnic in Canada, delivered the online session. The theme, “Entrepreneurship: Expanding Business Overseas,” offered enlightening discussions about the complexities of expanding a business internationally.
Dr. Ahluwalia highlighted key qualities needed to succeed in global markets, including cultural adaptability, flexibility, networking, and an understanding of diversity. Using case studies of international brands like Tim Hortons, McCain Foods, and BlackBerry entering India, as well as Indian companies such as TCS, Infosys, and Royal Enfield establishing a foothold in Canada, she addressed both the opportunities and challenges of global expansion.
The seminar presented important lessons on leveraging local opportunities, diversifying revenue streams, fostering cultural exchange, and exploring new markets. Emphasizing Walmart’s strategies and the lessons learned from its global expansions and setbacks, Dr. Ahluwalia provided a detailed plan for sustainable market penetration.
A total of 112 participants attended the session and actively participated in the Q&A that followed.
Dr. Sanjay Mangla, Associate Professor, SIMS, who moderated the session, provided excellent support throughout the event. The discussion emphasized practical applications of entrepreneurship in a global setting, with key takeaways including the importance of travel, networking, learning from mistakes, and cultivating cultural flexibility.
