DYPIU Successfully Hosts AICTE-Funded ATAL FDP on “Sustainable Practices in Energy and Environment Sector”

Pune, 28th December 2024: The Department of Chemical Engineering at D Y Patil International University (DYPIU) successfully conducted an AICTE-funded ATAL Faculty Development Program (FDP) from December 16-21, 2024. The online FDP focused on “Sustainable Practices in Energy and Environment Sector,” bringing together 291 participants from 19 states, including professionals from academia and industry.
With an impressive lineup of 13 expert speakers, including two international speakers from Canada, the FDP provided an extensive platform to address sustainability challenges and solutions. The program comprised thought-provoking sessions on a range of topics, such as Living a Low Carbon Life, Effluent Water Recycling and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD), Applications of Nanofluids in the Automobile Sector, Sustainable Manufacturing Practices, Role of Alternative Fuels in Addressing Global Climate Challenges, Environmental Protection Laws and Regulations, Avenues for upskilling in Energy & Environment Sustainability Education and others in the area of sustainability.
The sessions were conducted by Umesh Dixit, Dr Tauseef Siddiqui, Dr Santosh Ghuge, Rajesh Bhutani, Dr Shriram Sonawane, Dr Makarand Pimplapure, Dr Bharat Bhanvase, Dr Varinder Mittal, Dr Shirish Sonawane, Dr Parag Gogate, Keshav Kendre, Anil Ranveer and Mahesh Bangad. The sessions emphasized critical areas, such as reducing carbon footprints, adopting alternative fuels, recycling industrial waste, and adhering to environmental laws. Participants explored practical strategies to integrate sustainable manufacturing practices and advanced technologies like nanofluids and functional nanomaterials for fuel cells. They also delved into innovative wastewater treatment methods to mitigate environmental impact and discussed the importance of environmental protection laws and regulations.
Dr Santosh Ghuge (Scientist NCL Pune) and Dr Varinder Mittal (Canada) emphasized on the role of development of policy and regulatory support would help in pollutant emission in the environment. Prof Dr Bharat Bhanvase (LITU, Nagpur) and Prof Dr Shirish Sonwane (NIT, Warangal) emphasized on development of environmental friendly and energy efficient technologies will play a crucial role in next ten years in achieving the sustainable industrial developments. According to Rajesh Bhutani and Arch. Mahesh Bangad it is important to have indigenous technologies and infrastructure will be beneficial in achieving sustainability goals to a certain extent. Participants appreciated the program for its actionable insights and emphasis on upskilling in sustainability education. A key takeaway was the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and the adoption of innovative technologies to drive sustainability in academia and industry.
The program was expertly coordinated by Dr. Shailesh Ghodke and Dr. Utkarsh Maheshwari of DYPIU. This initiative reflects DYPIU’s commitment to fostering impactful learning opportunities that equip professionals to address global sustainability challenges effectively.
