Pune: Khadakwasla Dam Discharge to be Increased to 35,574 Cusecs at 2 PM, May Touch 45,000
Pune, 21st July 2026: The discharge from Khadakwasla dam into the Mutha river will be increased from 27,203 cusecs to 35,574 cusecs at 2 pm on Friday following a rapid rise in the reservoir’s water level due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas.
The Khadakwasla Irrigation Division said the increased release has been necessitated by continuous heavy inflows into the dam. Officials added that the discharge may be further increased or reduced depending on rainfall intensity and inflows received in the reservoir.
The irrigation department has also warned that the discharge from the dam could be further increased to as much as 45,000 cusecs if heavy rainfall continues, and urged citizens to remain alert.
Authorities have appealed to people not to enter the Mutha riverbed and to immediately remove any materials, equipment or livestock from the river channel. Residents living in low-lying areas have been advised to take necessary precautions and local authorities have been asked to alert vulnerable communities in view of the rising discharge.
The advisory comes amid heavy rainfall across the Khadakwasla dam catchment and ghat sections, with officials closely monitoring reservoir levels and inflows.
