Pune: Passenger Slips While Boarding Moving Koyna Express at Lonavala Station, Railway Staff Save His Life
Lonavala, 31st July 2026: Two Central Railway personnel displayed exceptional courage and presence of mind by rescuing a physically challenged passenger who slipped while attempting to board a moving train at Lonavala railway station in Pune district.
The incident occurred at around 6.32 pm on July 29, when the 11030 Kolhapur–Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Koyna Express was departing from Lonavala station.
According to Central Railway, the passenger, identified as Amit, a resident of Karjat, attempted to board a second-class general coach after the train had started moving. While trying to board with the help of his crutches, he lost his balance and fell dangerously close to the moving train.
On noticing the incident, Pointsman Vallentine D’Souza and Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Sikandara Sahani, who were on duty at the station, immediately rushed to the passenger’s aid. They swiftly pulled him away from the moving train, preventing what could have been a fatal accident.
Railway officials said the passenger, who was in a state of shock following the incident, was provided first aid and counselling by station staff. The Lonavala station team later ensured that he was safely accommodated on the next train to continue his journey.
Central Railway commended the prompt action of D’Souza and Sahani, describing their alertness, courage and presence of mind as an exemplary act of service that helped save a passenger’s life.
Reiterating its commitment to passenger safety, Central Railway appealed to commuters not to board or alight from moving trains, warning that such actions can lead to serious injuries or even prove fatal.
